Activity-Based Service Discovery – An Approach for Service Composition, Orchestration and Context-Aware Service Discovery

Service Discovery is a core enabling technology for users in mobile and ubiquitous computing. However, most of the existing protocols for service discovery works on a low level and do not provide support for higher-level service abstraction, composition, and orchestration. Nor do they support service discovery tailored to the mobile user’s context. This paper presents the principles of Acitvity-Based Service Discovery (ABSD), which aims to assist the user in composing and orchestrating services on a more abstract level, which are tailored to his or her current activity and context. The ABSD architecture is presented and its current implementation is detailed. The paper ends by discussing the proposed solution in comparison to other research projects.
